He was born the same year as Abraham with the Mormon Lincoln and was four years younger than the Prophet Joseph Smith. His life is so closely associated with that of his father John Tanner that the history of one is largely the history of the other. There is no account of Sidney's conversion to Mormonism, but it probably took place about the same time and in much the same way as that of his father. He was twenty-three years of age, married, and the father of a son when his father joined the church. Sidney Tanner was only six years younger than John Tanner's third wife Elizabeth Beswick, and his oldest children were older than a number of hers. This often creates an interesting social problem; |
