Lake George is a paradise for boating, and both private and commer cial interests have taken advantage of its sparkling waters. The economy of Bolton is tied closely with tourism. There total of more than a hundred motels and camps, and picnic sites in abundance. In the year 1962, nearly 86,000 tourists camped are a are the shores and islands of Lake George, and other thousands were enjoying the comforts of the many motels. At the same time an aerial count of the motor boats on Lake George showed five hundred at a given time, which was about twice the number on Lake Cham on plain, a lake more than ten times as large as Lake George. Author Brown is concluding his chapter on "Boats on Lake George" says a bit sadly, "Natives and old Lake George lovers now often look back to the days of the early twenties [the 1920's] when the lake was not nearly as congested and noisy as it is today and wish those days were still here." If John Tanner were here to see what has happened to his beloved lake he would likely disapprove.
