Show Preface The John Tanner Family Association has published two geneal The first, Descendants of John Tanner, (hereafter referred books: ogy to as John Tanner Genealogy), was published in 1923 and contained 264 pages an index. The second, the John Tanner Family, referred to as John Tanner Family), (hereafter published in 1942 contained 698 pages, also with an appropriate index. In addition to giving lineages, dates of birth, marriages, and deaths, some at tention is given to history and biography, and appropriate pictures are printed when possible or where available. As one would expect attention is special given to John Tanner, his wives, and his twenty 1 one children. including The 1942 John Tanner Family book devotes six pages to a of John Tanner consisting mostly of anecdotes and inci dents in his colorful career, but furnishes no footnotes or other 2 documentation. One who reads this brief but enjoyable account can biography not but wish for more and is left further information. wondering where he might go for The desire for additional information led the present author to research, and he was pleased with some of the findings which came with but little effort. do some Scraps of Biography which is the tenth book in the Faith Pro moting Series published in 1883 by the Juvenile Instructor Office of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, devotes the first two chapters to an account of the devotion and generosity of John of this account reveals its similarity to the account in the John Tanner Family book and one realizes that the author of the Tanner book was largly indebted to Scraps of Biography for his material.
