Francis Tanner, the eldest child of William and Elizabeth Cott rell Tanner is the grandfather of John Tanner, our common ancestor. FRANCIS TANNER, born July 3, 1708, in South Kingstown, R. 1., married February 26, 1728, by Rowse Helme, Justice, Mary Tosh of Newport. She died November 10,1745. Isaac Tanner, born Sept. 9, 1736, in South Kingston, R. I. Married first time, Dec. 8, 1759, Lydia Sherman, daughter of Benjamin and Ruth Sherman. Married second time, April 28, 1765, to Hannah Boss, daugh ter of Jeremiah Boss of Richmond, R. 1. Married third time, August 16,1770, to Mary Bentley. He died at Tanner Hill, Schuyler, Herkimer County, New York, Sept. 10, 1822. Inscription on his tombstone: "In He was memory of Isaac Tanner, who died in the faith." 87 years old. He had thirteen children: Benjamin, Francis, Isaac, John, Nathan, William, Gardner, Lydia, Hannah, Abi gail, Patience and Mary, but no reference is made to which family-they belong or the dates of their birth.
