A I mean the row boat turned over on two different occasions, and we capsized the launch once. Q Do you know what caused the launch to capsize? A We got crossways in the rapids, and carried it down into a rock and turned the launch over. Q Did you encounter any difficulty with sandbars? A Yes sir. Q What trouble did you have with them? A Well, we run on to a sandbar and had to get out and force the launch off by hand. Q How large a load of provisions did you have with you? A I would imagine about five hundred pounds to start with. Q What happened to the provisions? A We lost the provisions in the last time our row boat capsized; that is, a good bit of the provisions. Q Were you able to get any other supplies? A No sir. Q Where, with reference to Dandy crossing, did you lose these supplies? A We lost the supplies about -- my best judgment it would be about twelve miles above warm creek. Q On the up trip or the down trip? |
