Show 4484 Harshberger- D 2504 Q Just tell me about those, please. A There was oil seepages along the river, and a number of people were interested, had claims, and a considerable amount of drilling was done, a little drilling along about 1894, but particularly in about 1906 and 1908 and 1910. Q Were you in there at all those different times? A Yes, from 1902 on until 1921 I was there most of the time. Q Did you do any drilling yourself? A Yes. Q At what point did you put down a well? A Near Mexican Hat. Q In the river bed? A No; it is about a mile from the river bed. THE SPECIAL MASTER: I understood the witness to say there had been a little oil drilling in 1894, 1896, 1898 and 1910. Then you asked his whether he had been there on each of those occasions. He says, yes, after 1902. What is the meaning of that? BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q You meant 1904, didn't you? A Yes, 1902, 1904 and on; 1892 there was no drilling done; that was placer excitement. THE SPECIAL MASTER: Just change that, then, because the witness said 1894 and 1896. |
