Show 4445 Marrs- D 2465 this winch on there? A As far as I remember it never was dismantled; it was left on the boat intact. Q Do you recall any occasion when the crew had to get overboard? A yes, most every day, if we had very far to go. Q When the crew went overboard, what would they do? A Depend on how bad we were stuck; if we were stuck coming around a bend they would try to get to the near shore, the short side, and pull us back; is we were stuck in a straight piece of river, wasn't any short to get to, we would have to work the boat back and forth, push it off, and try to find another channel deep enough to go up. Q How many years did you continue to operate this boat? A The first year I was away from Los Angeles about five months; the second year about four months; not all the time operating the boat, though, that I was gone. Part of the time in constructions work, and getting over there and back, waiting for supplies. Q Take the first year, what months were you over there? A We started to boat about the 1st of August; we operated August, September, October, November, December; we arrived Flagstaff the 20th day of December, coming back. Q The following year? |
