Show 4389 Loper- D 2409 a photograph which in marked 405 and ask you if you can identify that? A That is where the Mormons who crossed the river at the Hole- in- the- Rock in 1879 and 1880 left the river; that is not the Hole- in- the- Rock, but opposite, across the river from the Hole- in- the- Rock. Q Is it on the right or left bank of the river? A That is on the left bank; that is the old dugway; the sand and stuff they had in there is washed away; but at the time of their crossing they had that smoothed over to a certain extent, and took their wagons right up there, and made their road as they went through the country. Q Where did they road go with reference to the big rock with the small rock on top of it on the right- hand side? A I think it turns to the left and goes up that way ( indicating). Q Haven't we got another picture that shows the other side of it? A Yes, there is, somewhere; Mr. Allen has a good picture. ( Complainant's Exhibits 406 and 407 was thereupon marked by the reporter.) Q I show you two pictures marked Exhibit 406 and 407, and ask you if you can identify those. A Both of the Hole- in- the- Rock. Q On which side of the river? A That is on the right- hand side, the Hole- in- the- Rock. |
