Show 4519 Barnes- D 2539 Q What was the purpose of that trip? A Well, it was to go up to the mouth of Warm creek to get some coal. Q Just tell me the progress of the boat up stream. A Well, we hitched the big boat on to this scow and started up stream; whenever we got stuck on a sandbar, or stuck, the crew got out and pulled it with ropes. Q How large a crew did you have? A I think we had four men besides myself. Q How many times would you say you got stuck between Lees Ferry and Warm creek? A Oh, I would say about ten times. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q Was there a coal mine at Warm creek? A No, your Honor, there was a cold prospect up from the mouth of Warm creek some miles; I couldn't say how much; they had prospected and dug out some coal; not and established mine. BY MR. BLACKMAR Q Did you eventually get the boat to Warm creek? A Yes sir. Q After we got to Warm creek what did you do? A We made some repairs to the launch, and stayed there over night, I believe loaded up about three hundred pounds of coal, and came back. Q Did you have any difficulty in getting the boat down? |
