Show 4437 Marrs- D 2457 the flood went by. THE SPECIAL MASTER: Just a minute on that. As I recall the testimony, the spring floods are high water, and the floods coming from the rains in September and August occur at low water, so when he says just after the flood is the best time to operate, it doesn't mean very much unless he specifies what the stage of the water is. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q Mr. Marrs, supposing you tell us just what stage of the water you mean. A At the time we went over there, we went about the 1st of August, which would be low water season; a thunder shower would come up; the flood would come down, some wash way up the canyon, flow into the river; that would be the flood that would run by; take a day to run by; while going by it would clean all this sand out; then the next four or five days, maybe a week, the channel would be fairly clean, the troublesome bars. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q Even at low water? A Even at low water. The river, after a flood goes by, raises a foot per hour sometimes, until this flood has gone by; never rains in that country, always have cloud- bursts; when they have one along the river, it comes down in sheets. |
