A I crossed with burros a few times below Bluff about four miles, where there was a kind of crossing that wasn't quick sanded; most of the places the animals would mire in the quicksand. I had occasion to cross the San Juan a number of times the first time I was in there prospecting, in 1892; we crossed back and forwards in December, with knee boots, and we didn't get our knees wet. We were prospecting on the north side, and back and forwards, we would carry our boots, go across, backwards and forwards across there. Q Have you ever had any experience on the Colorado river? A A little at Site; I was interested in some mining property on White canyon. Q What year was that? A In 1907 and 1908. Q At what point did you enter the Colorado river? A About three miles above Hite I put in a ferry, a cable ferry. Q Before we get to that, how did you get into Hite? A By teams or pack animals from Bluff in there, then we went out to the railroad from Hite by way of Hanksville and Greenriver. Q Then you left Bluff with this pack train, just what |
