Show 4503 Caldwell- D 2523 BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q Were you at one time State Engineer of Utah? A Yes sir. Q What term? A 1920 to 1924. Q Have you ever been on the Colorado river? A Yes sir. Q At what point did you enter the river? A I have entered the river at three points. Q When was the first occasion that you were on the Colorado river? A I entered -- on the first occasion I entered the river at Hall's Crossing. Q And the date of that place? A I think that was September 8, 1922. Q What was the occasion of your going in there at that time? A Well, I represented the state of Utah on the Colorado River Commission, and I went representing the state of Utah on this particular occasion to make general observations, thinking it might be of use to me in my work, and in a general way of value to the state. Q Who else was in that party? A Well, there was sixteen people, as I remember, including the boat crew; I don't know whether I can remember them all. |
