Show 4327 Loper- D 2347 A Yes sir. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q Mr. Loper, did you do any mining in Glen canyon? A I placer mined a little bit. Q When did you enter Glen canyon for that purpose? A When? Q Yes. A In 1907 I went on a prospecting trip, started at Greenriver, Utah, and that was when I went Hite or Glen canyon. Q What day did you leave Green river? A September 19, 1907. Q Who was in your party? A Charles Russell and Ed Monette. Q Just what equipment did you have? A We had three steel boats made by the Michigan Steel Boat Company; they were launch hulls sixteen feet long, had a depth of about eighteen inches, a forty- eight inch beam, no motors in them; they were made for motors, you know. Q Did they have any compartments in them? A We made the compartments ourselves, and decked them over. By the way, they were keel boats. Q That was the stage of the water the day you left Greenriver? A Quite low, because every morning when we would start out it was a guess to see who was going to get wet first, and |
