But it was by inches we did get through. And there was no more trouble then until after we got below the San Juan. Q Tell me about that. A When we were proaching the San Juan, my companion looked ahead about a quarter of a mile and says, " There is a big rapid." I say, " There is no rapid at the mouth of the San Juan." MR. A Any way, when we got there, it was sand waves instead of a rapid, big sand waves,-- pretty big sand waves. We didn't have any trouble with sand waves until we got around the loop a couple miles below there; then is when we ran into the real sand waves. They form so quick they will form right under you; we were into those sand waves before we realized it. And we had an open boat. And the sand waves were such, if we ran those waves head on, we would swamp our boat. So we had to think quick. We turned the boat |
