Show 4477 Thomas- C 2497 A No, Tom Wimmer was the so- called skipper of the front boat, and Andy Wimmer was the skipper of our boat. Q Did both of the two boats that were going in tandem get stuck always at the same time? A Oh, yes; they were so firmly lashed together couldn't distinguich one from the other. Q Did that cause some difficulty in going down, adopting that tandem method? A I don't know that there was any difficulty there because of that. Q With the two boats lashed together tandem fashion, you think there was no more difficulty if one boat happened to run on to a bar or an obstruction than if it bad been entirely free? A Additional weight to handle, I should think, in getting it clear, would be the only difficulty. Q There would be two boats instead of one to get out into deep water, too, wouldn't there? A There was twice as many boatmen with two boats lashed together, perhaps, as there would have been for one. Q Well, you were on that river eight days; how many times do you have a recollection of, total times when any boatman stopped into the river to help get a boat off a bar? A It became very common thing. THE SPECIAL MASTER: The question is, how many times |
