Show 4476 Thomas- C 2496 BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q Did you see any of what has been called in this case sand waves? A I didn't see any sand waves. The San Juan was at a low stage when we went down. BY MR. FARNSWORTH: Q How many times would you say, Mr. Thomas, during the entire trip, either of the two boats that you were riding was stuck so it was necessary for the boatmen to step off the boat in order to shove it out into deeper water? A Oh, I would say, to represent the situation, twice in a half day. Q Twice in a half day? A Yes. Q Of each day? A It really depended more upon distance than upon time, of course. Q Do you think it occurred four times a day that a boatman would step into the water to push either one of your boats off a bar, or other obstruction? A If we traveled continuously for half a day, I would say twice would be a fairly correct estimate of it. Q Who guided the front boat? A I think Tom Wimmer. Q With your party? |
