Show 4474 Thomas- 2494 now, who was an electrical engineer of the Union Pacific railroad -- Koehler. MR. BLACKMAR: Charles P. Koehler. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q Have you named them all now? A There were sixteen men, altogether. Q There were sixteen men altogether, including the boatman? A Yes. Q So that made four men to the boat, did it, -- there were four boats and sixteen men? A That is the way it would average; I don't think that is the way we rode; in the tandem which I rode where was Mr. Young, Mr. Stetson, besides myself, as passengers, and Andy Wimmer, Rawson and Jones as boatmen,-- six. Q So there were six in one boat. Have you any idea what the draft of that boat was, with six passengers? A We carried most of the supplies; we had boxes of canned goods, a good deal of the bedding, and I think most of the food supplies. Q About how many pounds would you say,-- a ton? A Not a ton, but somewhere between five hundred and a thousand pounds, I would say. Q Have you any idea what the draft of the boat was, loaded in that fashion? A Nine or ten inches. |
