Show 4431 Marrs- D 2451 machinist's mate, instructing in submarine service. Q Have you ever been on the Colorado river? A Not until this trip with the Edison Company. Q What year was that? A Went out there in 1921; also a second trip in 1922. Q What was the nature of your employment? A I was called a boatman on the pay roll, and was sent out to run a boat they had bought at San Pedro and shipped out there. Q Where did you find this boat? A The first time I saw it was when it was in transport, on a truck in a garage at East First street; the next time it was at Lees Ferry -- I mean at Flagataff. I took it overland to Lees Ferry. Q What size boat was that? A Twenty- six foot long, about five feet wide, as near as I remember; tunnel stern boat, propeller wheel in the tunnel in the back end of the boat. ( Complainant's Exhibit 408 was thereupon marked by the reporter.) Q The picture shown on Exhibit 408, is that a representation of the boat? A That is the boat, right there. Q Do you recall the month that you reached Lees Ferry? A We left Los Angeles in the evening, on the five o'clock train, on the 23rd of July, 1921. We arrived there |
