Show 4351 Loper- D 2371 Q What was the object of that trip to Lees Ferry? A Mr. Seeboldt was after information and data along the placer mining way. Q Did you make some stops between Hite and Lees Ferry? A The first night we stopped at Tickaboo, Cass Rite's place; the next night we stopped on the Olympia bar, with Frank Bennett. the next night we stopped at Shock's upper cabin, just below lake canyon; the next night we stopped at the Hole-in- the- Rock. The next night we stopped about a mile, I presume, above Warm creek. When we got up the next morning we could hear the men working on this steam boat they built there. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q Where was that? A Warm Creek, twenty- eight miles above Lees Ferry. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q Then in to Lees Ferry the next day? A Then went to Lees Ferry the next noon. Q Did you have any difficulty in making that trip? A Just the regular sandbars, was all. We run on a rock in Trachyter rapid; we run on a rock in the rapid around the first turn below Shock rapid; there is a long island in there; that big rapid at the end of the island; we went through the middle channel; in going through there we hit a gravel reef, but nothing serious. |
