Show 4325 Loper- D 2345 from the east breaks down; you can come down to the river. This month when I passed there, I noticed particularly how the Fathers could have crossed there. They must have went up on the bar after they got down to the river, went up on the bar and then crossed over to the mouth of Kane creek. Q Does the river become shallow there? Is there a ford, or what is it? A In low water I have an idea you can go across there quite easy. Q So far as you saw it. I don't want a guess. A Of course, we never got out and tried to cross there. Q Did you ever see anybody fording there? A No sir. Q Is there any one running boats over there now? A No, any more than you have got shallow water. We had no trouble at that time, but we had eighteen thousand second feet of water on this last trip through there. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Photograph 243, Exhibit 11 D, I don't know whether that is the Crossing of the Fathers or not. You might be able to look at it and tell me. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q Can you tell by looking at that photograph whether or not that is the spot called the crossing of the Fathers? A No, I don't say that I can; I can't tell whether Kane creek comes in here or here ( indicating); I imagine it |
