Show 4320 2340 BERT LOPER was thereupon recalled to the stead for further direct examination, and having been heretofore duly sworn herein, testified as follows: DIRECT EXAMINATION ( resumed) BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q Mr. Loper, after you reached the mouth of the San Juan on this 1921 trip, then where did you go? A We continued on down to Lees Ferry; we continued the survey on down, and Mr. Trimble's survey ended at West canyon, on the east side of the river. Q While that was going on, did you make a trip to Lees Ferry? A The cook became indisposed and had to be taken out, and Mr. Allen, the recorder, had been quite sick, so he went out, so I took the two out, a distance of seventy miles from Lees Ferry, I took them down, went out to Flagstaff, got a cook and a rod men and brought them back. Q What kind of boat did you use to go to Lees Ferry? A One of the regular boats. I was told I said we had three boats. I would like to correct that; we only had two boats through the San Juan. If I said three boats, I only meant two. We had three boats from the mouth of the San Juan on, but not through the San Juan. |
