Show Jones- RC 410 A Yes sir. Q What? A Yes sir. Q You are right on the river? A Yes sir, live right near the river. Q How would you say that the appearance of the river on the occasions when you forded it and formed this judgment as to depths, compares with the appearance of the river in other years as to the volume of water? A Well, the river varies so, some places it is scattered out wide and other places it is confined in a narrow channel, and you couldn't hardly take a guess at it, but wherever I have forded it and the river is fairly well confined, it has been from two to four feet. We usually take a gravel bar to ford if we can find one; the quicksand is very bad. Q Now, during these forty years that you lived there were you active personally in rounding up cattle? A Yes sir, good many years. Q You have forded the river many, many times each year, have you not, during low water? A Yes sir, some years. Q Well, didn't you practically every year? A No; our cattle didn't go across the river so much; kept them on this side. Q How many of those forty years of your residence at Bluff would you say there were when you did not personally ford that river? 2376 |
