Q Have you been clear down the San Juan river to its mouth on the Colorado? A I haven't traveled the river, but I have crossed it in different places and been to it wherever you could get to it, practically. Q The San Juan river, starting in there at Bluff, enters a canyon, doesn't it? A About twelve or fifteen miles below Bluff. Q Just describe the condition of that river bed with reference to sand, and so forth. A When we landed there? MR. FARNSWORTH: This is at Bluff? MR. BLACKMAR: At Bluff, and from there on down. A The river was confined in apparently a permanent channel, with cane and willows and cottonwood trees up and down; it was practically confined to one fairly good channel; but since then it has been tore out all to pieces. Q Well, did you and your party establish a town there at Bluff? A Yes sir. Q and did you lay out some farms and some irrigating projects? A Yes sir. Q How extensive were those? 2333 |
