Show Bowen- C 508 A No, horseback. Q Horseback? A Yes sir; no bridges. Q Aside from those three occasion, what other occasion did you have to go on the San Juan river until you moved there two and a half years ago? A I have been to Bluff a number of times; you follow right down the river on the old road for twenty- five miles, I guess. Q Right along the side of the river? A Right along the side of the river. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q The old road from where to where? A From the mouth McElmo to Bluff; going from Cortez to Bluff on the lower road, the old road. BY MR. FARSWORTH: Q How near the river did that old road run? A At intervals it would come close to the river, then go over a little mesa and back to the river again. Q Generally right along the river bank, did it? A Right along the river, within a mile of the river all the time. Q Was it right up to the river? A Right up to the river in places. Q For what distance would it be right up to the river? A I think the last five or six miles it is right near at the river; in places only room for a wagon road between the bluff and the river. Q How many times did you go over that road? A I have been over that road at least twenty times. 2474 |
