Show Jones- C 400 Q How far below Chinile creek? A Well, ten miles, or fifteen. Q By the way, you spoke of a changing channel, and the changing course of the river. Is there anything of that kind below Chinile creek, or is the stream confined? A No sir, it is confined. Q From Chinile creek down to the confluence there has been no change in the course of the river? A Not much; it is confined in a box canyon. Q And through that stretch there is but little shifting of channel, isn't there? A Yes; there is some, however. Q Some, but it is a staple channel? A Yes sir; small bottoms in a place or two, very small. Q Now, in making your examination of the territory at and in the vicinity of Bluff upon your arrival there, you saw no evidence of the river, even along through that section, having changed its course within any recent period? A No sir. Q There were no marks then visible upon the ground of any other or different channel than the one it occupied when you arrived there? A There was little sections we saw very large trees that had come down with the stream sometime, away from the river. Q That was merely evidence of a flood, wasn't it? A Been years before that Q How many years, would you say? 2366 |
