Show Martin- D 529 Mexican Hat on a little bridge there and come up on the north side to Bluff, as near the river as the road went, and then we turned and went off into Colorado, to Colores. That is the only trip I was ever down that far. Q Who was in the party? A Mr. Smith, I forget his initials, he was in the government service at that time. Q Where did you join with Mr. Smith? A At Farmington. Q What year was that? A I think it was 1916. I am not so positive, but I think that was the year. Q How did you proceed from Farmington to Bluff? A Down to Shiprock and across the river and went out on the west side, southwest side, on to the Monumental valley in Utah. Q Did you go by team or automobile or how? A Team. You couldn't have got through at that time, you can now, I think, with an automobile; at that time you couldn't. Q Did you attempt any part of that journey by boat? A Not down in there, we crossed the San Juan at Blommfield on a boat once. Q What I am talking about, did you attempt to go down the river in a boat? A Oh, no. Q Sir? A No sir. Q How far is Shiprock above Bluff, Utah? 2495 |
