Show Butt- D 545 Q How did you get across the river? A We forded it; when the river was low we forded it; pretty near swam our horses sometimes, and sometimes only took them up about to the knees. Q What year was that? A Well, I have forgotten; about 1890, though, I think. I have no memorandum of it, at all. Q Did you make these crossings in the summer time? A No, it was in cold weather most of the time. Q Do you recall whether or not it was in the fall of the year or the winter? A It was in the fall of the year; when cold weather came we could almost wade it, cross without getting into water; but in the summer time the water flowed pretty good. Q Do you recall who was in charge of that party? A I used to know his name; I have seen it in print, but I forget his name. He came from Denver, Here; he surveyed the land, also, was over in Utah taking a map of all the mountains in Utah, the same delegation did; be took lots of maps of lands over in Utah at the head of the Sevier river. I forget his name. Q How long were you out with that party? A About six weeks. Q How many times did you cross the river during that six weeks? A Twice went over that way, then we come back near the south of Comb wash. Q Where is Comb wash with reference to Mexican hat? 2511 |
