A Yes sir, in the basin ever since, except about eleven months I traveled om the east. Q How far down the San Juan river have you been? A I have been down to Bluff city. Q You have had occasion to observe the river during low water? A Yes sir. Q Just tell us, please, and locate the points, how low the water got and what the condition of the river bed was. A I have seen it when there wasn't any water in it to speak of. Q And at what point? A Along the river there where I was engaged at work in handling sheep and cattle for the traders between what is known as the Hogback and Farmington and down as fas as Shiprock. That is thirty miles,-- twenty- eight or thirty miles below Farmington. Q Have you ever had occasion to observe it between Shiprock and Bluff? A Yes sir. Q What did you see there? A I have seen it quite high, and then I have seen it when there wasn't any water in it only in holes or in the depressions. Q Between Fruitland and Bluff City are there any tributaries of the San Juan which run the year around that you know of? A No sir, because I didn't live there enough to state definitely as to whether they had run continuously, but I don't think 2533 |
