Show Nielsen- D 445 Q Which side of the river you go down, north or south? A The north side, until I get five miles below Bluff, then we crossed the San Juan river and went over on the south side. Q have you had any contact with the Indians since you have been in that country? A Me, myself? Q Yes. A No sir. Q Have you ever seen Indians on the river? A Yes sit Q For what purpose? A Oh, they came over there to trade with the whites, and at the store; they are there all the time, forward and back. Q Do their boats go up and down the river, or just used for ferried? A Just used for ferries. Q Have you ever seen the San Juan river when it was dry? A Yes sir. Q When? A I think it was in about 1890. Q And at what point? A Well, all along, perfectly dry, water in holes, was all; was no running water. Q Have you seen it on other occasions? A Never did. Q Have you see the river when it was very low? A Quite low.
