Show Raplee- D 469 A Yes, just for my own camp. Q Were there other placer mines down there at that time? A Yes. Q Where were they located? A Probably one hundred and fifty men working on the river at that time; they were scattered all up and down the river for fifty miles. Q Were most of their supplies brought in my boat or by wagon? A By wagon, and boat from Bluff on down. Q But from Bluff on down were most of the supplies taken down by boat or by wagon? A Well, along the first few years most of it was taken down by boat. Q And after that how was it taken? A After that we got a road built in there, a good road, and we hauled these down with a wagon. Q Passed up the river and went down with a wagon? A Yes. Q I don't know very much about placer mining. Do you use any heavy machinery in connection with it? A Not the way I did it, there wasn't ; the heaviest piece there was about it was the wheel, the water wheel. Q Did some of those other placer mines have boilers and engines, and equipment of that kind? A No; I think there was only one boiler -- no, there was two boilers brought in there. That is all that was ever brought in there. But they didn't use them very much; one, I guess, they never used at all. 2435 |
