A Well, no sir; it was longer than that before I went down very far. Q How long would you say it was after your arrival at Bluff before you went down and made a substantially full exploration of the river down to its confluence with the Colorado? A Oh, I couldn't tell that. Q Well, five years or so? A Nearer ten, likely. Q It would be within ten years, though, would it? A However, the time we took our familiar and moved in there we came right up over that very country between Hole- in- the- Rock and Bluff, came right over that rough country. Q And win the course of that trip you gained a familiarity with the river and its characteristics? A No sir. Q Didn't you? A No sir. Q Oh, I see. A We didn't touch the San Juan river until we got ten miles below Bluff. Q I just want to get the approximate date when you had acquired knowledge of the San Juan substantially from Bluff down to the confluence, so you knew its general characteristics.
