Show Jones- D 364 valley, they called it Grand river then, and crossed over to Green river. Q Where did you cross the Colorado river or the Grand river? A Right where Moab is now. Q Was there any settlement of Moab at that time? A No sir. Q No irrigating or no farms of any kind? A There was a Negro and a Frenchman lived there in the old fort, that had been built before that; they irrigated from a nice big stream right there, just a small patch. Q Then where did you go? A We went west to the Green river. Q Where did you cross the Green river? A Right where Greenriver City is now, right just above the bridge. Q And from there you went on south to Cedar City again? A Southwest, yes sir. Q Then when did you go into the San Juan Country next? A We started out in October the same year, 1879. Q What kind of party did you have then? A When we all get together there was eighty- two wagons of us, about two hundred some- odd souls. Q Where did you cross the Colorado river? A What they call Hole- in- the- Rock. Q About how far is that from Lee's Ferry? A I expect it is seventy- five miles, the way the river runs, northeast. 2331 |
