Show Walker- D 491 A It is hard to say; I would judge it is in the neighborhood of fifty mile. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q Is it on the San Juan river? A Yes sir. Q How long have you been in and about the San Juan river? A I came in there on the last day of June of 1896. Q And have been there ever since? A Yes sir, along close to the river. Q What is the general character of the country in and about Fruitland? A In what regards? Q Is it agricultural, or what is it? A It is farming and stock raising. Q Is it an irrigated country? A Yes. Q And from what river do you get your water? A Well, at the present time we get the water from the Animus river. We have been getting it on the San Juan, but a few years ago we consolidated two or three ditches and took it from the one ditch and extended the head on up out of the San Juan into the Animus. Q Have you had any experience with dry water on the San Juan river -- low water? A Well, I have had this experience, as I had -- Q When, in point of time, if you can fix the time? A As near as I can tell from anything that I have on that, it was about 1902. 2457 |
