Show Walker- D 494 A There were several along the river there. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q What is the size of the skiffs, eight or ten feet long? A About four feet wide, and about ten feet long, something like that. Q Fiat bottom? A Yes, you might say a flats bottom, nearly flat. BY MR. FARNSWORTH: Q Now, during your experience on the river since 1896, you recall this occasion which you think probably was in 1902? A Yes sir. Q And on that occasion you had to put something in the nature of a dam in there in order to divert sufficient water into your canals for your uses in irrigation? A Yes sir; usually when we had a little higher water, why, it would out the channel in the river, and knock down our ditches; we didn't have ditches large enough to draw the suction through, so we had to clean that bar out and divert the river to get it down there and get it in our ditch. Q The water was out down to a lower level so it wouldn't flow into your ditches? A Yes sir, without some little dam. Q It was, then, not the scarcity of water, but the water level, that made it necessary for you to divert it? A The scarcity of water, too; it dried up so it didn't run from one pool to the other; it formed pools, put so dry it didn't run from one to the other. Q You wouldn't be able to fix the year that testimony concerned. 2460 |
