David Powell was born in 1853 in Wales. In 1873 at age 19, David's family sold their farm to come to America. The first day they were in Utah, David went to work in the hayfield located on a farm east of the Jordan River. David later worked in the Highland Boy Smelter located west of Tripp Lane. While working in Murray, he met his wife, Dena Bohn, daughter of John Bohn who became a prominent LDS artist. They married in 1878 and moved into a two room brick home on a twenty acre farm in 1882. David added two more rooms as ~ seven children were added to the family. Last week's article about the farm incorrectly stated that Mary Powell Erekson was part of this family. She was not related and came to Utah much earlier. The Powell farm was probably part of the original Maxfield Estate. David later bought more land for a total of 150 acres. He paid $30 an acre. The farm was later sold to !-eJ:i,x_M~E,~ who then sold it to Cecil and Ed Jones. The original farm house was torn down in Ir~~ about 1955 and replaced with a red brick rambler.
