National Register of Historic Places Continuation Sheet Section NO.l Page ..L Utah Ore Sampling Mill, Murray, Salt Lake County, Utah NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION Tax cards for the years 1943 to 1952 indicate the following seventeen buildings present on the mill site: Mill C Mill 0 Thaw House Change House Shop Yard Office Shed Shed Scale House 2 Car Pulling Sheds Oil Storage Coal Shed Residence Garage Wash House NotO!~~c:f the above buildings remain, many have been demolished. vJ~ '}- The following buildings are located on the subject parcel #21-13-202-006: Mill C / MillO: What is now known as Mill "c" is the first sampling mill built on the site; located on the west side of the main facility, Mill "c" is the smaller of the two mills. Information on the exact square footage of each mill is not provided, however the tax assessment cards consistently record the value of Mill "0" as substantially larger than Mill "C"; a good indication that the newer mill is larger. l Both mills are constructed reinforced concrete, brick and "core iron". Although the tax cards record the dates of construction at 1926 and 1928, respectively, it is known that Mill "C" was bupt prior to 1898 as it a?R~ars on the Sanborn map for that year. N~ k~ ~~~ ~ ~ <t--\ Change House: Built c. 1913, the change house is approximately 658 square feet in size with a concrete foundation and square footprint. It is constructed of concrete block; there is a painted horizontal band at the cornice line, and the concrete block walls extend up into the gable of the roof. Insi~ ~ere are tqr~en lavatories and four showers , as well as a full basement. 2 1/.e~~ ~ ~~ On the north elevation there is a one room concrete block addition. This addition is recorded (for tax purposes) as the Oil Storage and Coal Shed. Built c. 1924, it is fifty square feet in size with a concrete foundation and a shed roof. The main entrance door is on the west elevation, the door has a six-light window in the upper portion with a horizontal three-panel configuration below.
