Murray, Salt Lake County, Utah Denver & Rio Grande to the west. and Oregon Short Line on the east. The 1898 Sanborn Fire Insurance Map documents the mill as the Taylor & Brunton Ore Sampling Works. Just below the title are the delineator's notes: "NO WHICHMAN-2 MEN SLEEP IN OFF. BLDG-POWER STEAMFUEL COAL-LIGHTS ELECTRIC (CITY CIRCUIT) RUN NIGHTS AT TIMESWATER FROM WELL BY STM PUMP-1" HYD 100' HOSEBLOGS SUBSTA_f""~!AL ~TI[)Y.. Yr.lP~_I!J_T_ED-CORR _._---- - 1R ROULS- --------- ~ The 1898 map documents an office building at the north end~f -tfie- sit.e._indicated in this a bedroom and storage room. At the south end of the site a building \ labeled "dry rooml:i a note indicates it is not used. Just north of the dry room \ is the blacksmith shop; the mill is located between the shop and the office. The \ center section of the mill is one to two and a half stories high; it contains a \ crusher. three rollers and elevators. To the north is a one-story wing used mostl for are storage, with a small corner marked as the oil room. On both the east an . west sides of this wing are the scales which are located directly over the ~ra~~k~s~--______________ ----_._-- ---- - - - - - - - - The Utah are Sampling Mill meets the registration requirements as outlined in the National Register Multiple Property Documentation Form, Historic Resources of Murray City. Developed between 1890 and 1950, the Utah Ore Sampling Mill is associated with the history and development of Murray between 1890 and 1950. Most of the original architectural features are still evident; the fenestration patterns as well as the size of the openings have not been modified, and the alterations to the buildings have for the most part taken place in the historic period. The Utah Sampling Mill has the last remaining buildings and structures representing of the significant industrial development of Murray City. |
