Show Toru Saito to host benefit for Topaz land purchase on Oct. 9 A privately held 92 acre parcel of the Topaz Internment Camp site including blocks 6,7, 13, 14,20,21 , 28, and 41 are all for sale. But the offer closes on Oct. 15, 2005. Toru Saito has organizsj a benefit concert on Sunday, Oct. 9 at the BMU Community Hall, 1710 Carlton Street, Berkeley at 2:00 p.m. The concert will feature songs from WWII remembered from camp dances. The popular Topaz singer, Toru Saito, known as "The Japanese Bing Crosby," will perform the sentimental wartime favorites . Saito will be accompanied by the Benny Marcello Trio, Benny - piano, Kaz Maruoka from block 42 - bass, and drummer- Dave Strong. The funds from the concert will be used for the purchase and permanent ownership of the camp site by the Topaz Museum in Delta , Utah. The first half of the concert will feature the Northern California Karaoke Revue. Singer Sumi Mori of Toshi's, San Francisco, will officiate as MC. The Northern California Karaoke Revue will showcase its top 10 singers of the year. Tickets at the door are $20. Children under 12, no charge.
