PORPHYRIOPS MELANOPS (Vieill.). Two skins of this bird. In our synopsis of Rallidee (P.Z.S. 1868, p. 461) we have admitted with doubt two 6pecies of Porphyriops, observing that we could not consider them established until we had had an opportunity of examining further specimens. The white edgings of the external secondaries vary in extent, being best shown in one of the Bogota specimens, but apparently depend more upon age and sex than upon locality. W e are of opinion therefore that there is but one valid species of this genus, which must be called P. melanops (Vieill.). 26. RHYNCHOPS NIGRA (Linn.); Burm. I. c. p. 520. One skin. 27.
