Show I iigyw, ,with power to act. ‘ 499 ' The Athletic flouncil of the University thru its Presi- dent, Dr. Merrill, presented a statement of the expenditures of the Council during the past years for permanent improvemenm oflnthe athletic grounds, and also a statement of the present indebtedness of the Council. After considerable discussion, it was decided to advance sufficient funds from the General Maintenance Fund of the University to pay Prof. and Mrs. Ketchum the amounts due them, and the balance of the account was referred to the Committee on Student Activities for investigation and report to the Board at a future meeting. Miss Esther Nelson, Librarian, and members of the Library Committee, recommended that $1500.00 be expended for 800 books on "Utah and the Mormons". The Regents favored the purchase of these books, but at the present time the 'University has not the money to Spare. ‘ ‘ ,2 f;‘. Letters were read from Senators Smoot and Sutherlandt 1g respecting a bill now before Congress to establish experiment 3 stations in engineering in connection with Agricultural éj qfié011eges, Jfl The Senators stated that when the bill comes nibefore the senate, they will have it amended so as to comply 14 iwith the laws of Utah. A form of agreement between the Utah School of Mines , E3 and the Zinc Concentrating Company of Boston, Massachusetts, vi: iwas approved whereby the Zinc Concentrating Company establishesi: ' an experiment plant at the University for making investigations complex with the view of recovering values from low grade and ‘,_grea and the prevention of mineral wastes.
