Dear Sir: Your favor to our Secretary dated the 9th inst. duly received, together with the list of questions. A180, at a later date your telegram was submitted to us correcting question 10 in two particulars. After due cons1deration. our Board answers your questions as follows, and sends this communication by registered mail: Question 1. . ‘g " Is there, in the case of professors in the? University of Utah a definite presumption of continuous ' reappointment after a certain number of years Of satisfac- S tory service? rule, it has been generally understood that there was a presumption of continuous reappointment after a number of years of satisfactory service. ‘A number of years ago a schedule was arranged under which, of years of service, after a certain number salaries were increased from time to time and promotions in grade given. We deem it better, however, to state the exact facts and practice. Professors? are nominated by the President of the University after cons", sultation with heads of departments,nthe deans and the appropriate Regents' ‘ committee, and are confirmed or ap- pointed by the Board of Regents. The Regents seek to employ professors who will remain for a long period since we appreciate the fact that the longer they remain the morejl valuable are their services.
