Description	Minutes of the University of Utah Board of Regents and accompanying materials, including correspondence, subcommittee reports, and other records from March 31, 1914, to June 12, 1916, at the end of President Joseph T. Kingsbury's administration and the hiring of John Widtsoe as President. Preceded by a copy of the By-Laws of the Board of Regents adopted October 7, 1915. Minutes typed and signed by secretary D. R. Allen, a professor of mathematics and astronomy.
Abstract	This collection contains bound volumes of minutes of the Board of Regents meetings, including accompanying materials, such as contracts, correspondence, meeting minutes of subordinate committees, and faculty newsletters. The Board of Regents historically served as the governing body of the University of Utah. In 1969 the name was changed to the Institutional Council (the State Board of Higher Education later adopted the name of State Board of Regents). In 1991 the Institutional Council became the current Board of Trustees.

At the request of Regent Armstrong, Regent Van Cott consented to draft a form of resolution, in this connection, for the consideration of the City Coun- cil. On motion, adjournment was taken. I Secretary , September 2,1914 A meeting of the Board of Regents of the Univer- sity of Utah was held in the Directors‘ room of the Deseret National Bank at one o'clock,p.m., Wednesday, September 2,1914. Present Chairman Riter, and Regents Kingsbury, Middleton, Whitmore, Bamberger, Young, Armstrong, Lund, Rolapp, Gemmell, Williams, and Beal. All minutes of meetings of the Board were read and approved to date. Watchmen not . Dr. Kingshury stated that he would_like the to carry ' fire arms opinion of the Regents aswto whether or not the watchmen at the University should carry fire arms. After a short discussion, it was, on motion of Re- gent Armstrong, second Regent Rolapp, decided that the carrying of fire arms by University watchmen ‘ 'be‘prohibited.
