Show CHAPTER X. the University, without the permission of the Board of Regents; but the Board does not regard it as undesirable that a member of the teaching force should take part conservatively in public activities. MISCELLANEOUS DUTIES AND PRIVILEGES OF THE UNIVERSITY STAFF. The General Duties. Section 1. Loyal and efficient service to the University, and therefore to the State and its people, together with a law-abldmg Work Required. and moral mode of life, shall be the tests by which the members of the University staff shall be judged. Disloyalty, inefficiency, lawlessness, immorality, or failure to ablde by the regulations of the University, shall be cause for dismissal from the University. Section 2. All members of the teaching staff may be released from instructional duties during one-fourth of the calendar year, provided that administrative duties may shorten the vacation periods. The administrative officers of the University shall be entitled to an annual vacation of not less than one month. Members of the University who render summer school or other vacation service may receive extra compensation. ‘2 7M Vacations. Section 5. No member of the instructing staff, receiving full pay, shall, without the President's permission, do less than twelve hours' class work per week or their equivalent in laboratory or other University work, two and one-half hours of actual laboratory work counting as one class hour. Fifteen hours per week shall be considered the standard amount. Committee work is to be additional. The President shall maintain a system by which each teacher shall report to the Registrar each class that he attends and the names of the absent students. Pulmonary Tuberculosis. a; Section 6. Teachers, students or empfoyées infected with pulmonary tuberculosis shall be excluded from the University of Utah. Salary Schedule. Leave of Absence. Section 3. Temporary release from regular duty may be granted by the President of the University. After six years of service on the University staff, and every seventh year thereafter, a professor, associate professor or assistant professor may receive leave of absence for one year on half pay, for the purpose of better fitting himself for his work. Acceptance of such leave of absence binds its recipient to remain in the service of the University for one year after his return, at the salary which he received for the year previous to his leave of absence. Outside Work. Section 4. All members of the University staff, on full time pay, shall give their full Section 7. Except for special cases the salary schedule shall be as follows: Professor .............. $1800 to $2500 Associate Professor ..... $1750 to $2100 Assistant Professor ..... $1300 to $1700 Instructor, Maximum. . . $1250 The salaries for professors, associate professors and assistant professors shall increase $100 each year from the time of appointment until the maximum salary for the grade is reached. The maximum salary of the Librarian shallbe $1500; of the supervisors of Geography and History, Art, Primary Work, Domestic Science and Kindergarten Training in the Training School, $1400; for Critic teachers, $1250; for grade teachers, $1020. service to the work of the UniVersity, excepting during such vacations as may be granted. Academic Freedom. No member of the University staff shall accept any office or employment or perform any service that will interfere with his duties to Section 8. Academic freedom in the pursuit and teaching of knowledge shall be maintalned in the University of Utah. 21 22 |
