Because the stone actually in place in the columns have only vertical surfaces and therefore do not offer any projections for the lodgment of snow or moisture, and further because of their having been "Imperviated," Defective stones north colonnade central bldg. the present defects which we have noted but which are not at all apparent, may not get worse. If for instance by the end of five years they should not have undergone any change for the worse, it might be better to leave them undisturbed. If, however, the defects are of dangerous character, or if they should tend to become unsightly, five years' time should be ample in which to observe and prove them. We, therefore, recommend that Mr. Moran be given a respite of five years in which to remove the defective stones, and that he be required to furnish a Satisfactory Surety Company Bond fully indemnifying the University against any loss which might occur; and that in any final settlement effected between the University and Mr. Moran, the University's interests be fully protected by the required bond. If you desire to consult with us further on this matter we are subject to your call. Very truly yours, (Signed) Cannon,Fetzer and Hansen,Assoc.Archts. By Lewis Telle Cannon.
