Q Did you take any soundings of the water as you went down? A Yes sir, we had a man sounding all the time; he would stand there hollering out, " Plenty water here," " Plenty water here"; the next minute we hit right up ( indicating) and knock us all overboard. Q How did he make the soundings? A With a pole. Q Was he on your boat, or was he ahead of you? A He was on the front of the boat, on the bow of the boat, Q Did you get stuck on say sandbars in that stretch? A I should any we did, stuck good and plenty; stuck about seven or sight hours on one going down, and two or three hours, I don't know bow many times we was stuck; we was stuck a lot of times. Q I am confining this to the stretch of river above the mouth of San Rafael; did you get stuck on any sand bars in there? A From the mouth? Q From Greenriver to the mouth of the San Rafael. A No, there is no sandbars there; that is all gravel bars, rocks. Q Did you get stuck on any of those? A No; we got stuck with the row boat coming down there. 2695 |
