Show Kolb- D 790 Q If you had bad some one in the stern or in the bow who could have seen these bars ahead, I suppose you would have avoided some of them? A It would help, yes; and if there was a man steering he could lock downstream; that helps; we didn't have such a man with us at that time. We found many such bars throughout Labyrinth canyon, down through the Double Bowknot section. Q What is this you call the Double Bowknot section? A At the Double Bowknot the walls continue to get higher as you go down and the river comes around in that shape ( indicating). Q That is a sort of an " S"? A Yes, double " S", and the walls are about seven or eight hundred feet high, I judge, and at this particular place it is only eight hundred feet across; it is seven miles around the center of the Bowknot; then it has two others on either side that are quite similar. Coming out of Labyrinth canyon you soon get into stillwater canyon. Stillwater canyon is towards the lower end of that one hundred and twenty mil section from Greenriver down to the junction, approximately one hundred and twenty miles.
