BLACKMAR: Q Getting into Glen canyon do you get into some more sand and sandbars there? A Yes sir. Q Did you experience any difficulty in there in grounding? A Frequently. The Dirty Devil river brought in a lot of sand; there was a different channel from there on, a different character of river. Q Where about in that canyon do you pick up the mouth of the San Juan river? A It is a little more than half way through Glen canyon. Q Does the San Juan river enter the Colorado in Glen canyon? A Yes sir, it does. Q And from the mouth of the San Juan on does what character of water do you get? A It is quieter than it is above. Q But with reference to the sand? A There is considerably more sand brought in by the San Juan. Q And was your progress from that point marked with groundings upon sandbars? A Quite frequently, yes.
