We left there, that is, the family moved to Mancos; we always kept a store down there on the San Juan until 1884; the Indians took it then. Q At Four corners? A Yes, at Four Corners. Then another time moved down to Spencer Mesa; that is between Four Corners and the mouth of McElmo. Q About how far above Bluff? A Close to thirty miles above Bluff. Q Did you yourself then go down further on the San Juan river? Have you been down in that country? A Several times; I moved in there at Mexican Hat in 1908. Q What did you do in that country then? A Went in there for the oil business, went to frading with the Indians at the same time. Q Are you an oil driller? Did you work on a rig? A Yes, I am a driller. My education was a mechanical engineer; that is what I went out for. Q Were you personally interested in the drilling of some of these oil wells? A I have land there yet, yes sir; I drilled sixteen wells down there. Q How did you get your supplies down there? A Hauled them in with bull team and wagon, pack outfit. Q What is a bull team? 2656 |
