Show Kolb- D 781 and we made the run from Split Mountain down to Jensen in one day, Jensen In Utah. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q How is that spelled? A J- e- n- s- e- n; it is near Vernal. Q Near Vernal? A Yes sir. Q What do you call quiet water, in your experience, a current running about how? A Two and three miles an hour. If I might explain, most of the canyons seem to have the violent rapids; out in the valleys the water is comparatively quiet, different altogether from the water that we would find in these upper canyons. Q I wanted to get your idea what you called quiet water. A We stopped at Jensen and went out to Vernal, and came back at once and resumed our work and went on down this valley. We passed the Utah Indian reservation at Ouray river, and stopped there over night. We made the run from Jensen to Ouray in a day and a half. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q What kind of water there? A We still had this favorable high- water stage we had come on when we were in Lodore; it had rained a great deal, and the rivers continued to pour water in all the way down until we 2749 |
