Show Kolb- D 779 MR. FARNSWORTH: I withdraw the objection. A We had extremely low water; it was a very narrow channel through Ashley falls; that is the only point outside of those two rapids I spoke of that recall themselves to my mind. We only remembered places where we had a little difficulty. Q About how wide is that river up in that country? A In the low water we had it would average one hundred and fifty feet wide, I would judge. Q Have you any definite idea about the depth of the water? A It would be comparatively shallow at either shore, if it was a straight stretch of river. Q What do you mean, shallow? A It would be gravel, if it was swift water, gravel from the shores and gradually deepening towards the center. Q Did you have enough water so your boats would float? A We had a great deal of difficult with our boats dragging on the rocks, on account of extremely low water. Q At what point does the river leave the state of Utah? A We came into quiet water in Brown's Park, below Red canyon. Q Brown's Park is still in Utah? A Yes sir. Brown's Hole, sometimes called. And the river changes its direction and goes directly east, paralleling the state of Wyoming and Utah boundary, and somewhere above Lodore post office it enters the Colorado. Q Is Lodore post office in Utah or Colorado? 2747 |
